It only takes 2 hours..............

I have an idea for a project I want to make, so I begin to search for a pattern, lo and behold I find a great one and it states "It only takes 2 hours to make".  I read through the instructions, "oh this is super simple and I can have this whipped out in no time.  I trek off to the fabric store and find just the right fabric, I just can't wait to get started.
The next morning dawns and I am ready to face the day, I am going to fly through my daily chores, and head off to my sewing room. I am Suzy Homemaker ready to spring into action!

I grab my pattern, start reading how many pieces to cut out, lay out the fabric, ding the dryer goes off, okay fold the clothes real quick then I will come back, now lets see how many pieces of Side A do I need? Shoot forgot I need to thaw something out for supper, at this point I realize I need a few things from the store.  I sit down and make a quick grocery list, give it to my husband (I take care of my Mom who can't be left alone, so he does the grocery shopping) back to my sewing room. Success pattern pinned to the fabric ready to start cutting, phone rings its the husband he can't find the brand of soup I need for the casserole will this other brand work? Yes that is fine.  Back to cutting my pattern, finally have all the pieces cut out, now we are ready to head to the sewing machine!  Phone rings, its the husband the store is out of the main ingredient in the casserole, okay fine just pick up some ham, cheese, bread, and cookies!
Back to sewing, sit down at the machine and Mom comes to the kitchen she is hungry, okay Mom let me get you some lunch, fix her some lunch, have to sit with her as she eats because she will try to feed her little dog and the dog is diabetic, Mom can't remember that she is on a special diet and cannot have one morsel of anything else.  Mom is done eating, help her back to her room get her in her chair and put the TV on the Western Channel for her. Head back to the sewing room, horn honking the husband is home he needs help unloading the groceries (not sure why, didn't I tell him to just pick up sandwich stuff?) Groceries in and put away. I can get back to my project now.
Dogs start barking, the Home Health Nurse has arrived for Mom's check, an hour later I am ready to go back to sewing.  I flop down in my chair and finally start sewing, we are just zooming right along then the bobbin runs out, at this point I think I actually pull some of my hair out.  I decide to sit down drink a Diet Coke on ice and just chill for a bit.
It's now time to start the evening routine, supper, feeding dogs, medication for Mom and her dog, getting Mom ready for bed, cleaning up the kitchen.  8 p.m. I'm too tired to even try to finish my precious project at this point, maybe I will sit down at the computer and check out Pinterest.
Oh look at this great item and it only takes a couple of hours to make........

This has not been a very productive week sewing wise for me, I am still trying to overcome being sick and just still do not feel like myself.  But it's time to pull myself up by my bootstraps and get back in the groove!

I have been busy working on the Handmade Circle Team Christmas in July Sale, I am super excited about this, and am looking forward to a great sale, so many wonderful shops have signed up for this.  Be sure and stay tuned as information will be coming out next week about the sale.

Dressing It Up.....

It wasn't that very long ago that denim was worn when working out in the yard, or by the working man.  June Cleaver would never have been caught in denim! However today we women wear those June Cleaver pearls with our denim!

Look at these "Dressing Up Denim" items I found on Pinterest:

Great Office/School Attire!

Dressy Denim Shoes!

And now for the Newest Item in my Shop:

Just a little lace added to this denim purse and you have "Dressed It Up"

It Was A Wild Night......

What a difference a few years makes, several years ago if I said "It was a wild night" that usually would mean  a night of partying it up!  Oh how time changes us all. Last night was a wild night but it sure wasn't due to partying!

2:00 am:  Loud boom and we are shaken out of our bed!  What the heck was that? Was that thunder? (we did have storms moving in from the West).  Doc and Ringo my two Boston's are going crazy barking and very upset.   Get up open up the front door see my neighbors out with a flashlight also trying to figure out what the heck it was.  Come to find out this morning we had an Earthquake!  I was used to them while we were living in Alaska, had them all the time, but you never think about them in Texas!  Finally get situated and back in the bed.

5:00 am:  I am awakened by one tiny Chihuahua sitting on my head crying and panting, about that time Boom! I thought not again, but this time the lightening followed, the storms had arrived.  So I am up again for a bit with a scared little dog.  Finally get back to bed and back to sleep about 6:00 am.

I am looking forward to a nice calm peaceful night tonight.  These days about as wild as I get is sewing up some wild animal print, like this Eyeglass Case.

Go wild this weekend and have a great time!  As for me, I am hoping for a tame one!

An Uninvited Guest......

Here I am minding my own business, planning a week of fun with my oldest granddaughter and the uninvited guest shows up!  We have all met this nasty little visitor, he is known as Mr. Upper Respiratory Infection! He barrels his way into your home and into your body and knocks you flat on your back!

I thought I could get him to leave on his own, but had to end up going to the Doctor to get his eviction papers known as medicine!  The worse thing about his visit, I had to take my granddaughter back home because I was just too sick to keep her.

Well guess what? You are out of here!!!! The medicine has started to work and you are on your way out the door!   I hope he doesn't show up at any of your houses, if he does kick him to the curb and quickly as he seems to enjoy messing up your plans!

I am looking forward to getting back to working on new items for my shop and to getting my granddaughter back so we can finish our visit!

Before the uninvited guest made his ugly appearance I did get this cute little purse made.  I just love this purse! So simple, yet so very unique!

I am hoping to be back in the Bags By Hags Workshop Soon! Hope you all have a great day!

Time for some Friday Finds from Pinterest, this week my theme is Recycle and Re-use!

Now this is really a wow factor for me!
This idea I really like!
A Recycled Cycle!
Made from Recycled Pickle Jars!

Recycling is good for all of us, my favorite thing to do is to take a pair of denim jeans and turn them into a number of things, Purses, Totes, Bible Covers, Bookmarks, Christmas Stockings, the possibilities are endless! So the next time you have something you are going to toss, STOP think for a minute I wonder what I could make from this.  (Disclaimer:  I am by no means suggesting you become a hoarder when in doubt throw it out!)

Have a Fabulous Friday!

Bookmarking The Pages Of Your Life......

Don't you wish that sometimes our lives could be like our computers? Where we could bookmark all the favorite moments of our lives, and then when you are having a bad day just click on one of your bookmarks and you would be taken back to that page in your life in an instant?

Of course we all have photos we can look back on and memories in our hearts and minds, but sometimes I wish just for once to go back and re-live some of those wonderful times just to relish in the moment one more time.  As we get older we sometimes lose the ability to remember some of those things (this is all too familiar for me as a care for a mother with Dementia), I would encourage everyone to keep a journal along with those photos so your children and grandchildren can also share your wonderful memories.

I am also introducing Bookmarks into my Shop:  These are very affordable and will help you bookmark your favorite verses of the Bible, or whatever book you are reading at the time.

These also make great little gifts!  You can see more information here.

ENJOY THE LITTLE MOMENTS IN LIFE, THEY MAY JUST END UP BEING ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE BOOKMARKS!

Things to do with Denim....

I love working with denim, my favorite thing to do is to take a pair of denim jeans and recycle them into something new!  I love to take a pair of jeans and make several items out of just one pair.  I usually start with cutting them off like shorts and make Denim Purses. Each purse is made unique and one of a kind, with different straps and adornments.  This is one of my favorite ones.

I then can take the legs and make tote bags like this one.
During Christmas I take the legs and turn them into Stockings. This was a custom order I received this last Christmas:
I also love to make Bible Covers out of denim, in fact these are my favorite things to make! Again each one is made unique and different, you can be assured you are getting a One of A Kind Item
Keep watching Bags By Hags you never know what may turn up in denim next!  Or if you have a particular item or style in mind feel free to contact me and I will be more than happy to do a Custom Order for you!

Moments of Memories.......

It's funny how certain things in our daily life will trigger a certain memory.  Music does this for some people so do certain smells and that is what happened to me yesterday.

I was busy working on a new apron for my shop, I was ironing the pieces for the waistband and ties and had to use a little spray starch.  The smell of that starch immediately made me think of my Grandmother.  Memaw as she was known to me, I loved her to the moon and back and would stay with her every chance I got.  Just that little burst of scent took me back to when I was child happily playing in her kitchen as she was doing her ironing. Something I hadn't thought about in such a long time.  It was a wonderful feeling and made me smile, such a blessing to me.

This was taken at Christmas in 1988, Memaw and some of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The little girl leaning up against her- My daughter who is now all grown up with 3 children of her own.

I was able to sail right on through making my new apron with such a smile on my face. Memaw would be proud I believe, she could sew anything!

The body of the apron is made from a vinyl recycled tablecloth, perfect for using while working in the garden  as you can just take a damp cloth to wipe the dirt off the apron body.  You can read all about my latest apron here.

I now have 3 grandchildren of my own, I hope when they grow up something so simple will trigger a good memory of them playing happily at Nona's house.  As I love them to the Moon and Back just like I loved Memaw and she loved me!

Awesome Days......

I must say today has been a pretty awesome day!
First my husband and I drove down to see our grandchildren - had to get my sugar fix!  I also wanted to take my daughter her Mother's Day Present. It came from this wonderful shop  This is what I gave her:
I won the necklace during one of Handmade Circle's BNR Raffles.  I had Amy who is the wonderful owner of this shop put all three of the grandchildren's name on it, then I gave it to her from the girls for Mother's Day.  She Loved it! She actually teared up a bit when Nattie Jo gave it to her.  You can find this wonderful item here.

We all then loaded up (in two separate trucks as not enough room in one for all the car seats!) and went to Wal-Mart had to get a few things.  This was our riding and shopping partner today! Miss Nattie Jo!
We go about our shopping and of course I head back to the fabric area needed to pick up a few items, and SCORE! They had racks of fabric on clearance, here are my finds at $1.00 per yard!
Can't wait to see what new items I can come up with for my shop!

We then headed home and had to do a little bit of the dreaded housework, but my floors just had to have attention! I couldn't stand it any longer.  Poor Ringo and Doc, they were banished to the back yard while the  sweeping and the mopping took place.
Hubby was nice enough to help me with the house chores because he had plans!
Notice anything in the back of his truck? My husband loves to fish! So off he goes!

I then noticed these gorgeous flowers blooming at the side of my house! I just love them!
Well since the husband is off fishing and the chores are all done, think I will head back to my little workshop area and create since I do have awesome new fabric to play with!  It was an AWESOME Day and I am truly blessed, all the little things in life mean so much!  How was your Saturday? I hope you were blessed with as much of an awesome day as I was!

My Creative Wednesday

I was a sewing machine today! Today I worked on Bible Covers for my shop.   These are my very favorite items to make, I make each one totally unique, I want each of them to be a very special one of a kind item for the people that buy them.

For the first one I made this is the pattern I picked out:
I then needed to decide on the color I wanted my handles to be, I decided to pick from one of these books that my friend brought me.  Look at all these!  There are some great pieces in here!
I decided on a pretty pink one, so I sewed up my handles first.
I then sandwiched all my layers together and pinned it in place.
I sewed it up leaving an opening for turning it right side out:
I then top stitch it to enclose the opening and iron it to make it all pretty and smooth:
See how the Bible fits into the pockets?
Once I was all done sewing, I added a few jewels to the outside for the finishing touch!
It is now all done and ready for photos and listing in my shop
You can see this Bible Cover and all the other ones I made today here.  I am listing the rest of them as soon as I hit the publish button.  I hope you enjoyed spending some creative time with me, and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me.  Have a blessed, happy Thursday everyone! ♥

Lets Create A Pot Holder Handle......

What is a Pot Holder Handle?  It is actually quite the nifty little accessory to have for your kitchen.  Basically it is a pot holder that is made to slide over the handles of your pots and pans to keep you from burning your hands when you are trying to move them from the stove.  Today we are going to make one.  Ready? Lets get started!

First I picked out the colors I wanted to use, I wanted something bright and cheerful so this is what I picked. (By the way this is a great project for using up those scraps)
Next I cut out all my pieces and pin them together like a sandwich.
Next I sewed the trim at the top.
Then I happen to glance to my right and see this!  Wish I could spend my day lounging while someone is working away!
Next we sandwich our two pieces together and sew them up.

Oh you will also need to rewind your bobbin cause we all know that right in the middle of a project is when it always runs out!

Turn it inside out and it will look like this:
I top stitch along the edge using a zig-zag stitch and you are now ready to cook!
These make great gifts!  Birthdays, Housewarming, Wedding Showers.  You can see this Pot Holder Handle Here
I also have different patterns available in pairs in my shop

If you don't see a pattern/color you like please feel free to contact me and I will be more than happy to try and create either one or a set that is just the style you are looking for!

Until Next time, happy sewing, happy creating, just be happy!
