Time Marches On......

Time - how it does march on!  It's hard to believe that Summer is winding down, the kids are back in school and before we know Christmas will be here!

Labor Day Weekend always finds me reminiscing about some of the most happiest moments of my childhood.  We always made the trek to Turkey Texas or Washington Oklahoma for the Collins Family Reunion.  This was all my dad's family.  They loved getting together, laughing and talking, playing cards and dominoes.  I remember playing with my cousins, the wonderful food, and being smothered my Aunt Agatha's kisses.  And of course there was the big bet between my dad and cousin Michael Collins, $100.00 on who was going to win on Texas-OU Weekend.  My mother would get so mad that daddy would bet that much money ($100.00) was a lot of money then!  I love all these wonderful memories!

Now time marches on, all my dad's siblings have passed and we no longer have the Collins Family Reunion.  I often wonder where all my cousins are, what is going on in their lives now, and if they have the same fond memories like I do.  Oh and Michael Collins - Texas will beat Oklahoma this year!

YESTERDAY......

It seems just like yesterday I was holding my newborn first grandchild.  I have blinked and now this Monday August 27th, she starts Pre-K!  I have no idea where the time has gone!  I have 3 beautiful grandchildren, all girls, but Natalie Jo or "Boo" as she is known to me, well we have a special bond.  I delivered her!  She wasn't waiting for the nurse to go get the doctor, so when they came back in I was holding my grandchild!  The most awesome experience of my life!

I always heard you never know true love until you become a grandparent, well let me tell you they are right!  My blog today is a collage of memories of Miss Natalie Jo, Boo I love you so very much and I cannot believe it is time for you to go marching off to school!

Feeling Frustrated?

We all have these days, where it feels like no matter what we do it just doesn't come out the way we expect it.  Life can be stressful, between jobs, family, trying to keep up with the house chores, and everything else that life throws our way.  Sometime you just want to bang your head against a wall!

Bags By Hags is proud to bring you something that may help you work your frustrations.  Introducing our Dammit Dolls!  These little guys are perfect for grabbing by the leg and beating against a desk or a wall.  Each doll is named, and can be made in any color you wish.  Don't bang your head against the wall, bang a Dammit Doll!  These would make a great gift as well.

They also will come with a little poem:

Whenever things don't go so well...
And you want to hit the wall and yell...
Here's a little dammit doll
That you can't do without.
Just grasp it firmly by the legs
And find a place to slam it
And as you whack the stuffing out
Yell, "DAMMIT! DAMMIT! DAMMIT!

What Were You Doing 35 Years Ago?

Today I find myself wondering, how in the heck did 35 years past so fast?

I remember August 16, 1977 just like it was yesterday, my mom was 9 months pregnant with my little brother, we were staying with my sister in Burleson in order for mom to be close to the hospital.  I can still see her sitting on the couch in this orange maternity dress with her feet propped up.  The Ice Cream Man was coming down the street, she sent me out to get her an ice cream, when I came back inside with her ice cream she was crying hysterically, Elvis Presley had died.

So much has changed in those 35 years, that baby (who was born on August 19, 1977) is now an Investigator for the Sheriff's Department, married with a 6 year old daughter and a new baby due in October.  I am now the Head Hag of Bags By Hags who still loves to listen to Elvis as I sew in my workshop. As for Mom, she now lives with me, I had to tell her what today was (bless her heart) she still loves ice cream, but thankfully there is no Ice Cream Truck out where I live, I am a little old to be running down the street waving money!  She gets her ice cream from the grocery store these days.  She still loves Elvis and that baby boy?  Heavens he is her favorite!

New Beginnings......

New Beginnings are so exciting! Marriages, babies, new home, new job, all of these things represent a new chapter and a new blessing in our life.

New Beginnings can also be scary, we all get into our own personal "comfort zone" and tend to stress out a little if we step out of it.  I started a couple of "New Beginnings" this week.  The first one was being named Captain to the Handmade Circle Team I am so excited and honored to be a part of this new beginning!

The second new beginning, I have added a Denim Jewelry Line to the Bags By Hags Shop Earrings, bracelets, and necklaces, all made from up-cycled denim.  I love the rustic/western look to this jewelry.

I am very excited about both of my new beginnings, while stepping out into something new can be a little scary, I have Faith that I am being led where I need to go!

Hot - Hot- Hot!

It is a hot start to August!  106 degrees here in Texas today, I thought we were going to get by with a pretty "mild" summer after last year's record breaking heat. But it appears we are in a little heatwave right now.  However it is Texas, it is August, so we should expect this I guess.

Something else that is "Hot" is happening over at Bags By Hags I am going to be doing some re-structuring of my shop before we head into the busy Holiday Season, which means great deals for you!  I have decided to discontinue my aprons so starting later tonight all the aprons in my shop will be discounted by 50%.  Head over to the Apron Section and browse, be sure you check back later tonight or tomorrow to grab an apron at 50% off!
